Well here it is a rare recording from Oaktown based duo, to be more especific their second recording succeeding the “Enter the Woods” Ep; like in first they continue experimenting with some drum & bass sound something like what Dj Crystl was doing with the smiley the ghetto child earlier in the game… some dark shit.
Just one track its DnB actually (Mic jones remix) the rest of the tracks are a rap; two of songs are
chessy for the ladies, “Thingz u Do” which samples an Star Wars score, and “Keeping me high” in which which knowmatic shows up. In “Prophecy” its more of a current description of what was going on on those day :( . “Shots out” makes its first appearance (too bad they don’t do that anymore ), and for “Ease Back” you either hate vocals or love the like flanger(?) effect, though some herbal enhacement may help it’s not required.
The overall sound it’s raw, simplistic and comes accompanied by the nostalgia of the cassettes days and the particular magnetic tapes sound; which was break from what the scene had to offer at a local level, in those days when mac dre was on fire and e-40 released its first recordings with southern artists, this tape was somewhat of counter-force embodiment proving laws the of physics.
1-Forshizo 2- Mic Jonez 3-Chronic Epidemic 4-Ease Back 5-Thingz You 6-Do Shout Outs 7-Prophecy 8-Keepin’ Me High Feat. – Knowmatic 9-Mic Jonez ( DnB Remix)
Somehow this was on my subconcious all this time. i watched at an erlier stage of my life probably in cultural channel or something like it. Anyway I’m happy I rediscovered this “short”.
Its nostalgic aesthetics & the message seems to travel from a long lost epoch, when power was spread more evenly in the world.
The director, Minkyu Lee says, “This is a short film that me and a group of my close friends made. It was put together by artists who work at various studios, including Disney Feature, Dreamworks and Pixar; The animation is done by myself, Jennifer Hager, James Baxter, Mario Furmanczyk, Austin Madison, and Matt Williames. Glen Keane also helped by being a consultant on the film, and also doing some visual development. It is a completely independent film without any major studio involvement. We are really excited for people to see it, and wanted to share.”
